Wire harness manufacturers need to verify crimp quality. It is found that over 25% of electrical failures in a car can be traced to a faulty crimps. It is likely that similar numbers prevail in other applications of crimp joints. A quality crimp meets or exceeds performance specifications related to crimp force, height and width; pull-out force; strip length; and insulation window (area between the wire and insulation). The VW 60330 standard by Volkswagen Co. tells their suppliers how they should test crimped terminals.
A micrograph is a photo of a crimped terminal cross-section taken by a microscope or a camera with appropriate lens assembly. A micrograph inspection involves analyzing this photo to measure crimp height, width, support angle and height, CFE, DFE etc; determine whether or not the crimp is gas tight (no voids within the strands); and if and why there is terminal deformation
We have developed a Crimp Micrograph Laboratory for inspection of crimp cross section. This system Carries out all required measurements and stores them in the form of reports. These reports are in xls and image formats which can be easily shared with your customer.More than ever, wire harness manufacturers need to verify crimp quality.
