ROPE TYPE MAGNETIC YOKE

A rope-type magnetic yoke is a portable magnetic inspection tool used in non-destructive testing (NDT) for the detection of surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. This tool is commonly employed in industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, and manufacturing for inspecting components such as welds, pipelines, and structural elements. Here's an overview of the rope-type magnetic yoke

Advantages:
  1. Portability:
    • Rope-type magnetic yokes are lightweight and portable, allowing for easy transportation and use in various inspection environments, including confined spaces and overhead locations.
  2. Versatility:
    • They can be used for the inspection of various geometries and configurations, including flat surfaces, curved surfaces, and welds, making them versatile tools for NDT inspections.
  3. Real-Time Inspection:
    • Inspection results are immediately visible during the examination, enabling real-time decision-making and immediate corrective action if defects are detected.

Rope-type magnetic yokes are valuable tools in the field of non-destructive testing, offering portability, versatility, and cost-effectiveness for the detection of surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. While they have certain limitations, they remain widely used in various industries for routine inspections, quality control, and maintenance activities.

A fixed handle magnetic yoke is another type of portable magnetic inspection tool used in non-destructive testing (NDT) for the detection of surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. Unlike the rope-type magnetic yoke, which has a flexible cable or rope, the fixed handle magnetic yoke has a rigid structure with handles fixed to the yoke body. Here's an overview of the fixed handle magnetic yoke:

  1. Design:
    • A fixed handle magnetic yoke typically consists of a yoke body made of ferromagnetic material, with magnetic coils or magnets embedded within it. The yoke body is often shaped like the letter "U" to accommodate different inspection surfaces.
    • Handles are attached to the yoke body, providing a stable grip for the operator during inspections. The handles may be positioned ergonomically for comfortable use.
  2. Magnetic Field Generation:
    • Similar to the rope-type magnetic yoke, the fixed handle magnetic yoke utilizes magnetic coils or magnets to generate a magnetic field. When energized, these coils or magnets create a magnetic field between them, inducing magnetic flux into the material under inspection.
  1. Operation:
    • The fixed handle magnetic yoke is placed on the surface of the material to be inspected, with the magnetic coils or magnets positioned on opposite sides of the area to be examined.
    • As with the rope-type magnetic yoke, a magnetic particle suspension is applied to the surface. The magnetic field penetrates the material, and any surface or near-surface defects disrupt the magnetic field, causing magnetic flux leakage.
    • Ferromagnetic particles suspended in the liquid are attracted to areas where magnetic flux leakage occurs, forming visible indications of defects.
